One big, luscious, lofty cable, in a reversible rib so it's just as gorgeous on both sides. Wrap the shorter version various ways with a pin or a big button. We sewed two tweedy buttons together back-to-back for a jumbo 'cuff link' and buttoned them through the holes created by the cable twist. You can share the long, handsome muffler with a man if you like.
Because of the reversibility of this piece, use a locking marker to mark the right side of your work. You'll be able to keep your place at a glance—and we're all trying to get better at reading our knitting! In that vein, notice that you're always putting an even number of stitches onto your cable needle, in knit and purl pairs.
This piece really is luxurious. If you substitute a yarn, make sure it has some loft and 'squeezability'. While you're knitting, don't forget to stop every once in a while to give your work a hug. Yum!
